End Of An Era: Apple Has Removed The Last iPad With Lightning Connector From Its Lineup

[ad_1]

Apple finally upgraded the iPads after a long wait. The new iPad Pro and Air lineup have moved to the higher-end of the M-series chips. However, Apple still has the 10th gen iPad available for those who want a budget option. But these changes have come at a huge cost for the company, which now does not have a product in its lineup that offers the legacy lightning connector.

That’s right, the 9th gen iPad has made its way out of the list, making the 10th gen iPad the base model available from the company. In fact, you also won’t see an iPad with the traditional home button anymore. The new launches have marked a new era for the company, similar to its transition from Intel to its in-house M-series chips.

Lightning has been a big part of Apple’s product history but the company has been somewhat forced to pivot by the European Union (EU) laws that resulted in the iPads first and now the iPhones adopting the USB-C charging standard.

Apple has always felt the need to have a closed ecosystem which offers greater control on hardware and software. Even its AI strategy is likely to emphasise on user privacy. But the change of guard with the iPads is now fully complete.

The new iPad Pro 2024 and iPad Air 6 compete in the higher strata on the tablet segment. The Air with M2 silicone now starts from Rs 59,900 for the Wi-Fi model, while the iPad Pro 2024 pricing in India starts from Rs 1,29,900. The 10th gen iPad focuses on the mid-range bracket where you have plenty of Android tablets from brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Samsung and more.
