NAGPUR: French liquor giant Pernod Ricard signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra govt on Friday to invest in a malt distillery at Nagpur. With a capacity of 60,000 litres a day, the proposed unit is dubbed to be India’s largest malt distillery. Among the company’s own facilities, it’s also the largest in Asia, and may well be the biggest in the continent for the industry, said Pernod officials.
The company has plans to invest Rs 1,785 crore in the unit over a period of 10 years.It may take over two years to complete the construction, followed by the ageing of spirits. The new distillery will also lead to substantial increase in revenue mop-up from excise.
