Accused arrested soon after axing duo to death, feared sister would stake claim to ancestral property of eight-acre farmland.
A couple was murdered over a property dispute at Kanianwali village in Punjab’s border district of Faridkot on Friday.
Police said Resham Singh, 32, and his wife, Harpreet Kaur, 30, both residents of Moga, were axed to death by her brother, Arshpreet Singh, also in his 30s. He fled after committing the crime in the morning but was arrested soon after.
Faridkot superintendent of police (investigation) Jasmeet Sahiwal said Arshpreet feared his sister, who had come to Kanianwali village a few days ago along with her husband and 11-year-old daughter to take care of their bedridden father, Gamdoor Singh, may stake claim to the ancestral eight-acre agricultural property.
“Arshpreet had an argument over the property with Resham and his sister on Thursday night, too. The couple was fatally attacked on Friday morning,” the SP said.
A murder case has been registered at Sadiq police station.
