HMD is bringing its first set of smartphones that don’t have the popular Nokia brand name to the Indian market soon. Here are the details.

Human Mobile Devices or HMD, makers of Nokia-branded smartphones, is going to roll out its first HMD-branded smartphone in India. Ahead of the official launch, the Finnish brand has recently announced the device’s moniker, which was chosen by the public through a contest on X. The brand is expected to debut the upcoming HMD phone in the country in a few weeks times.

Last week, HMD India announced the upcoming debut of its first smartphone in India. The company came up with a different marketing strategy to grab the attention of users and initiated a #HMDNameOurSmartphone contest on X, asking users to suggest names.

It was no surprise that Indian users hopped into the contest and came up with a plethora of name suggestions for the forthcoming HMD smartphone. Users suggested names like SHARPSY, Knife, Beast, INDHUMANOID, Manbha, Brahmos, Naruto, Spectra Spark and many more.

Out of the thousands of suggestions, the name that got the official nod for the upcoming smartphone was Arrow. The tech giant has partnered with the IPL team as their official smartphone partner during this year’s T20 season.

The HMD Arrow is expected to be launched as an entry-level handset. It would be available in three colour options, blue, pink and black.

Talking about the specifications, the HMD Arrow is expected to be a rebranded version of the HMD Pulse, which was launched in Europe. The new smartphone will come with a 6.56-inch HD+ display (1612 x 720 pixels) LCD screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate and 600 nits’ peak brightness.

The HMD Arrow will be powered by a Unisoc T606 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, which could be extended further up to 256 GB. The device could pack a 5000mAh battery with a 10W USB Type C charging feature, the device will run on the Android 14 operating system. It will feature a dual rear camera setup: a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling.
