OnePlus will share more about its new Watch 2 at the MWC 2024 this week

OnePlus Watch 2 is expected to improve on the features of the first gen model that has a lot of problems and didn’t do well.

OnePlus is taking a different route with its lineup at the Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC 2024) in Barcelona later this month. While most brands will be showcasing their new smartphones at the event, OnePlus has decided to try its luck with a new smartwatch this year. OnePlus Watch 2 will be the talk of OnePlus agenda at the event on February 26, as confirmed by the company this week.

The OnePlus Watch came out a few years back, and the overall feedback of the product was bad, which is likely to have forced the company to pause its efforts in this segment. OnePlus Watch 2 is tipped to be a premium version, with its stainless steel chassis and a sapphire crystal watch face among others.

The biggest reason why the Watch gen 1 didn’t work is because the wearable did not support third-party apps, ineffective with its health features and no basic smartwatch features.

It felt like a half-baked product without any direction and plan to improve with future updates. Having these chinks surely played a big role in OnePlus revising its product plans and now it seems ready to correct those mistakes and offer a compelling product in the market. We’re not sure if OnePlus wants to continue offering its own OS or switch to a more reliable WearOS platform this year that has support for thousands of Android apps. OnePlus is one of the many brands that have made a pitch for a product ecosystem and having a smartwatch is critical for those ambitions.

The Android wearable market is still fairly limited, so OnePlus and brands like Xiaomi still have the space to fit in and appeal to buyers in different price brackets. We’ll hear more about the OnePlus Watch 2 from the company later this week and hopefully it’ll be good.
