Social media platform X now lets users take part in video Spaces and engage with a group of people. Spaces was introduced back during the days of Twitter, but since the X rebrand, the feature has catered to live audio chats, as it was conceived.
But the Elon Musk-owned platform has now confirmed that a live video feature is available on X Spaces, which is basically the new version of Periscope that Twitter offered to its users many years back.
Many people thought that Musk will actually bring Periscope back into the fold but the new update this week suggests that was never likely to happen. X Spaces has allowed people to engage in an audio session, where one person talks while others can just listen.
The demand for these platforms caught up during the pandemic, when you have Clubhouse and other platforms trying their luck but slowly faded away. X is bringing live video to Spaces which might actually appeal to regular Spaces participants.
X Spaces Live Video Feature: How It Works
X has offered the Spaces video feature on the iOS app for now, and we didn’t see the option available on Android or even the web version.
When a person creates a new Spaces session, X will show them an option to ‘enable video’ which can be done by the host of the session. The person can use the phone’s front or back camera to start the session and even change the orientation between landscape and vertical on the feed.
The option to enable video and use the camera on Spaces is only available to the host of the session which does make sense, rather than having everyone tuned in via video which is not necessary for a live session.
