Xbox could have big updates planned later this year.
Microsoft is reportedly offering users the option to experience multi-platform titles, previously exclusive for Xbox consoles and PCs.
Earlier this month, there was widespread speculation regarding a potential shift in Microsoft’s gaming strategy. Some reports hinted that Xbox might break from tradition by introducing exclusive games for competing consoles like the Sony PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
Today, Microsoft has officially put an end to these rumuors by unveiling four Xbox exclusive games set to debut on rival consoles.
The list of games exclusively available on PC and Xbox, now extending to Sony PlayStation systems and the Nintendo Switch, includes:
– Pentiment: Scheduled for release on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on February 22nd.
– Hi-Fi Rush: Expected on the PS5 on March 19.
– Grounded: Set to launch on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on April 16.
– Sea of Thieves: Exclusively for the PS5.
Microsoft’s decision to adopt a different strategy is a noteworthy development, as this allows users of rival consoles to experience Xbox exclusive titles. This typically isn’t in line with what console makers are expected to do, considering their sales depend on whether their respective platform has access to exclusive games.
It will certainly be interesting to see if Microsoft decides to further step in the process and approves more exclusives to be launched on rival platforms. That said, Xbox’s days of becoming a major publisher seem not that far away from its current push.
